WITH regard to the front page story (Echo, Sept 8), regarding cancer detection and the fact that too many cases are only detected when the emergency services are called.

People die due to late detection.

This my little story, relating to bowel cancer.

The NHS provide a free screening service to my age group, something I took up.

As a result I have spent the last six months on a rollercoaster ride, which has made me reflect and review my life.

It has also led to trips to hospital and periods of depression.

However what I still find perplexing is the number of my contemporaries who do not take up the free kits saying they would be embarrassed or they would rather not know.

Please go and have the test offered. You owe it to your loved ones.

Save your life. You can do it.
