I HAVE come to expect excellent pictures in The Northern Echo and today’s page six (Echo, Sept 12) picture is no exception.
I did wonder if you were tempted to sub-title it ‘spot the anachronism,’ as Roman mounted troops did not have the benefit of stirrup irons.
Perhaps another reader can enlighten me on when and who first benefited from these now common-place foot rests.
