IT is all too often we hear of people complaining about services and treatment at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

I recently was admitted for a full hip replacement.

The procedure was carried out by Mr Sudhakar and his excellent team of theatre staff and on completion I was transferred to ward 33 under the care of Sister Greta Jones and her dedicated team of staff.

I would like to convey my utmost thanks to all staff I came into contact during my short but very pleasant stay. I found everyone to be helpful polite and efficient in every way.

I would also like to congratulate the catering staff for the excellent quality of the meals provided which I could not fault in any way.

Ray Vincent, Darlington

AT a time when we hear so many negative comments about the NHS I felt I must highlight the excellent treatment my six-year-old granddaughter received on a recent visit to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

During the early hours of Tuesday, August 29, my granddaughter complained of a pounding headache. She had a high temperature and was vomiting. I telephoned 111 and was advised to take her to the nearest accident and emergency department.

We arrived at the Memorial Hospital at 2.25am and were taken to an area designated for children.

She was seen almost immediately by a very kind doctor who treated my granddaughter, who is now fully recovered, most efficiently.

We were back at home by 3.20am.

I cannot praise all the hospital staff highly enough, but a special mention must go to the night cleaner, a gentleman called I believe, Wayne.

He had just cleaned the floor of the waiting area and it was immaculate when my granddaughter was sick.

This gentleman showed no irritation or annoyance at all. He cheerfully waived aside my apologies, saying ‘these things happen’ and proceeded to clear up.
