AS an avid lover of church music, I totally agree with Tony Kelly (HAS, June 29) that the demise of the Latin liturgy was a big mistake.

If church music (of all denominations) does not impart to the listener a feeling of spirituality, then it has no meaning.

I listened many years ago to a tape of Russian Orthodox choral music and it took me to another plane of human existence.

Fortunately, there are many tapes available of church music sung as it was composed.

I doubt the Vatican will revert to the Latin and it was a retrograde step to change to depressing modernity.
