I WAS reminded today of driving standards in bad weather. I followed a car without lights through Darlington in misty conditions and then on to the A66 where visibility was down to 50 yards with thick fog.
To my horror the car's lights were still not switched on.
I hear from time to time of drivers caught for speeding when they were only a few mph over the limit. These drivers are, in my opinion, often an easy catch for the police and in most cases not a risk to other road users.
Drivers who do not use lights are a much bigger risk and this can lead to serious accidents.I have not heard of any driver being stopped by the police for not having lights switched on in poor visibility conditions.
