IN response to Abdul Jaleel's comments about the Market Square toilets in Darlington (HAS, June 11), myself and a male attendant work there from 2pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday.

All of the flooring throughout is non-slip, and is mopped regularly. It has to be as certain people urinate on the actual floor instead of the proper place.

It has also been known for there to be excrement on the floor, and daubed over the walls and doors; filthy underwear to be left on the cubicle floors; dirty sanitary items left on the floor in the ladies, even though sanitary bins are provided; and we do have people with strong BO coming in and some that have used the toilets leave strong odours behind - not everyone smells of roses.

It is then left to the staff to clean this mess up. The toilets are constantly checked and cleaned. It is not an easy job and I know plenty of people who have said they couldn't do it for a living.

Well, I do and I work hard at what I do. When I lock up for the night those toilets are spotless for the next day and the morning staff to come into.

Ms CF Walker, Darlington.
