CORRESPONDENT Mrs P Springer (HAS, June 12) is wrong. The land of Israel does not belong to the Jews. It belongs to Israeli citizens, be they Jewish, Muslim, Christian or atheist. And Palestinian land certainly does not belong to Israel, however long it maintains its illegal occupation.

Like most Zionists unable to answer legitimate criticism of Israeli government policies, she calls us anti-Semitic. That doesn't wash any more.

Israel's human rights violations and war crimes in Palestine, including the deliberate killing of civilians, widespread torture, house demolitions, the destruction of its economy and theft of most of its water, has to stop.

If the UN is blocked by the US from bringing justice, the moral burden to stop the bloodshed and dismemberment of Palestine must be borne by individual states that are prepared to respect their obligations under international law and by individuals of conscience.

Boycotts, such as those being discussed by academics, journalists, doctors and various churches, are a non-violent tactic and cannot be called anti-Semitic.

Indeed, increasing numbers of Jews, including young Israelis who refuse to serve in the army of occupation, are saying that Israeli activities in Palestine are destroying traditional Jewish values.
