I WAS disappointed that your report on the Thornaby Spitfire dedication service (Echo, Apr 2) gave no mention to the many wartime veterans, some in wheelchairs, who took part in the parade; no mention of the air cadets who travelled from all over Teesside and Darlington to attend; and, most importantly, no mention of the many Thornaby people who turned out to witness a little piece of history being made.

The reviewing RAF officer, Squadron Leader Martin Sinclair, from RAF Leeming, and the honour guard, also from Leeming, were not mentioned and the town mayor, Councillor Pat Large, was only mentioned in the photograph caption.

Following the parade a luncheon was held with speeches and a photographic display showing the history of Thornaby aerodrome.

The people of Thornaby can be justly proud of their aviation history which has been acknowledged in this unique way.

I am sure that other local authorities will be taking an interest in the success of the Spitfire project.

The Thornaby town motto is "Always advancing". Where Thornaby leads, others will follow.

David Thompson, Eaglescliffe.
