WHILE there are many very serious issues to comment on, to me the thing I celebrate is the vote in Ireland in favour of gay marriage.
What matters most in human relationships is that we love one another.
My natural orientation is heterosexual but I think that we should proclaim it must be for everyone to relate to one another in a way which is natural for them. From being a young man I have not only been a revolutionary in politics but I have supported the campaign for homosexual equality. My opinion on this issue as on others is not typical of my generation. I am encouraged by a seismic cultural shift. As time goes on, and as I get older, I am more in tune with the opinion and sentiments of up-and-coming generations. To me, a spirit is moving many minds and hearts to a more generous human fellowship.
I do hope I’m right.
