SO, there are too few council houses in Leyburn are there (HAS, April 19)?
With the right to buy the housing stock will only be depleted as tenants take advantage of huge discounts, while those who can’t get a tenancy struggle to raise a deposit to buy at the full price.
For the vast majority of young people, the right to buy has been a disaster, leaving them too poor to get on the property ladder and unable to afford private rents.
If you are on a low wage, how can you save a deposit while paying private rental prices?
Ex-council houses are never sold at discount putting them beyond the reach of first time buyers.
