YOU printed a letter where the correspondent asked you not to print their name or address (HAS, Apr 15). The person states that they had contacted their local councillors and had not received a reply or acknowledgement.

Without stating when this contact has been made and the method used, it is very difficult to refute the unsubstantiated claim. I am sure that my colleagues and I endeavour to deal with all matters as promptly as possible.

If the person still is in need of help they should feel free to contact their local member.

Contact information for all county councillors is published on the website or it is available from public buildings in Spennymoor such as Green Lane or the library.

I personally would recommend a letter or e-mail for initial contact where possible as this gives the constituent the opportunity to clearly lay out their concerns at their own pace.

Councillor Neil C Foster, Tudhoe Division, Durham County Council.
