I AM totally in agreement with Eric Schofield (HAS, Apr 5) regarding the multi-screen cinema planned for St Helen Auckland. It is badly needed.
But when Mr Schofield says that we still have a bit of fight left in us, I’m afraid that the fight does not go as far as Crook.
Our town is dying and nobody seems to be doing any fighting here.
The demolition of the old bank chambers and council depot was reported in The Northern Echo three months ago. We are now into April, and what has been done? Absolutely nothing.
We have very few shops, and every other property is either for sale or to let. We have a surplus of betting shops, estate agents and food takeaways.
Our two councillors are only ever seen cutting the first sod for yet more housing or, in the case of Councillor Eddie Murphy, being involved with the football club. I bet they are not so slow in turning up for their allowances.
PA Aspinall, Crook.
