HARRY MEAD is right to mock William Hague’s finger wagging directed at Russia over the latter’s recent “land grab” in Crimea (Echo, Mar 26).
More to the point, since the Eastern half of Ukraine seems to want to be part of the Russian sphere of influence rather than the European sphere, I wouldn’t object to Russia doing even more land grabbing. If the Russians had any sense, they wouldn’t employ large numbers of tanks and troops in the exercise. What they and the Ukrainians need to do is organise a vote, and then let the areas where the majority want to join Russia do so.
