I AM a woman who was born in June 1953.
Under the old pension provisions I would have been retiring this year. Then the goalposts were moved for me to retire at 63, then again, because I was born after April 1953, to 65 years.
Now I find out that women born between April 6, 1952 and July 6, 1953, won’t qualify for the new pension rate (Echo, Jan 15).
Why not? What has the Government got against my age group? We’ve worked since we were 16, are we not dying quickly enough to please the politicians?
We must stand up and canvas our MPs for discrimination of women in this age bracket and bombard the Government into taking notice.
Mrs R Murphy, Brandon.
