The Hotel Inspector (Five, 9pm)

AS the grand-daughter of Lord Forte, Alex Polizzi obviously has staying power when it comes to running hotels… and, as her third series comes to an end tonight, she certainly needs it.

Her final test in the six-parter is from Liz and Michael Corfield, who have tried to turn their posh 18th Century Devon home into an appealing guesthouse. But only a third of the rooms are in use after the couple have invested in carefullystyled decor, plus a leisure and conference complex.

Luckily, Alex’s own hotel, Hotel Endsleigh, in Milton Abbot, near Tavistock, isn’t far away and viewers will have the chance to see Alex on the other side of the counter as she attempts to persuade Liz and Michael to change their ways.

They must face up to the criticism that they are “more retirement home than stately home”.

So what is the best way to start being accommodating to others?

Alex says: “I would say, work in the industry. It’s fairly self-evident, isn’t it?

What you should actually do is have a go, and see if you like it. Make a bed or two before you decide to have customers in your house. When you have a B&B you are your own kitchen porter, your own room maid, your own chef. You might as well know what it’s about. Just have some experience of actually doing that day in and day out and seeing if it suits you or not.”

So why does she think that people are attracted by the lifestyle?
