ALLEGED footage of Bigfoot is usually grainy, blurred and looks suspiciously like a bloke in a gorilla suit. But for some, such pictures, coupled with supposed eyewitness testimony, have sparked a lifelong obsession with finding one of these elusive beasts – if, of course, they do actually exist.
Director Morgan Matthews didn’t want to locate Bigfoot – or a sasquatch, as they are also known – but observe the people who have dedicated their lives to researching and hunting for them.
For the Storyville documentary Shooting Bigfoot: America’s Monster Hunters, he spent time following three groups of Bigfoot enthusiasts, and discovered that the world they inhabit is full of largerthan- life characters with bitter rivalries.
They are often scarier than the creature they want to find and, as Matthews reveals here, even he didn’t come away unscathed by his experiences.
