JMW Turner is regarded by many as the father of Impressionism thanks to his experimental works with oil and watercolour, and for his amazing skill at depicting light.
He was born in 1775 and died in 1851, which means his career took place during the turbulent changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution, from which he took inspiration, resulting in such amazing works as Rain, Steam and Speed, and Snow Storm: Steamboat off a Harbour’s Mouth.
This documentary examines nine key paintings by Turner that feature machinery or an industrial process.
