SAY what you like about Will Mellor and Rory McGrath, they’re always game for a laugh. Their sense of humour will stand them in good stead for their latest jaunt Rory And Will: Champions Of The World, which takes them on a lads’ trip with a twist.

The pair travel up and down the country to compete in the nation’s most bizarre games. Anything goes – from crabbing to wheelie-bin racing and onion eating to gravy wrestling. If there’s a championship held annually for it, the duo attempt to get their names all over it.

The men are loading up their Morris Traveller and setting off in search of the weird and wonderful sports Britain has to offer, each week taking on five new tests of skill, dexterity and mental agility.

For McGrath, the challenge could be a doddle. He’s used to the great outdoors, after all, thanks to his antics in the Three Men in a Boat series with Griff Rhys Jones and Dara O’Briain. If Mellor’s feisty onscreen characters are anything to go by, he can more than likely hold his own against his new companion’s banter.

For starters, they head to King’s Lynn, where Robin Reliant racing is first on their to-do list. Alan Cooper is the reigning champion in a hobby that sees the famed three-wheelers driven to near destruction.

All vie for the same prize – the right to paint the roof of their Reliant in gold to signify they are the champion.

It’s an altogether more raucous affair than their next challenge – the cointossing game of nurdling in Rutland.

World champion Richard Foster puts his title on the line, as McGrath and Mellor attempt to be the best of the best.

Next they head to Suffolk for the world thumb wrestling championships and then to Haddenham to take on the world champions of pea shooting.
