NOBODY does it better – makes us feel bad for the rest. Yes, James Bond may be 50 this year (or at least his films are), but he’s still battling bad guys and saving the civilised world from the clutches of megalomaniacs everywhere.

To mark his golden jubilee, BBC4 dedicates its Friday music night slot to the superspy and begins the fun at 8pm with another chance to see an edition of Omnibus dedicated to John Barry, the Oscarwinning composer who worked on numerous Bond films before signing off with 1987’s The Living Daylights.

Sings James Bond takes place at 10.30pm, and features numerous performances of classic themes.

Sandwiched between them is the James Bond 50th Anniversary Gala Concert featuring footage from The Philharmonia Orchestra’s concert of music from the franchise at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Honor Blackman, who famously played Pussy Galore in Goldfinger, presents the proceedings.
