I’M sick and tired of hearing the word “heritage”.

“We in the North East are proud of our heritage”, “We will save our heritage” etc instead of spending millions to remind ourselves what we used to be good at, for example, the demise and demolition of our steelworks, shipbuilders, mines, bridge builders etc, we should hang our heads in shame at their demise in the first place.

We now find this country without its own heavy industry. Why? Because of greed and laziness – yes, laziness.

I’m sorry but go to China or India, it takes us twice as long and four times more people to do the job here than there. We are not competitive - end of story.

Yes, we were the dog’s ******** of industry once upon a time but now we are the laughing stock of the world and rightly so.

We are an island who are relying more and more on imports.

Where is the sense in that, the carbon footprint alone is a disgrace.

John Cumberland, Rushyford.
