A FORMER public toilet could be converted into a cafe, if plans are approved by Durham County Council.
A planning statement has been prepared on behalf of McCarrick Construction for the proposed extension to the former public toilet on North Road, Durham.
The proposed development consists of the introduction of a glazed first floor extension to an already approved conversion of the existing public toilet to a cafe.

The existing 1960s public toilet block is currently vacant. The existing building is located off North Road, Durham some 100m North West of the A690 roundabout.
The building is accessed from the adopted footpath.
The proposed extension to the cafe has been designed to blur the edges of the form through minimally framed planes of glass with a reflective treatment.
The extension will reflect and retreat into the surrounding context of sky, trees and stone buildings.
The proposed upper floor enclosure is intended to be predominantly glazed with a flat green roof. The glazing is proposed to have a light reflective film, reflecting the surrounding sky and tree canopy in order to draw attention to the surrounding vegetation.
