AN international swimmer has been making the most of her university’s top facilities as she steps up her training to qualify for the World Championships this summer.

Aimee Wilmott is in the first year of her BSc degree studying Sport and Exercise (Coaching Science) at Teesside University, in Middlesbrough.

As part of its elite athlete training scheme she has access to specialist equipment and expertise, including the gym and hydrotherapy pool on the campus.

The 20-year-old from Middlesbrough finished 11th in the women’s 400m individual medley in the London 2012 Olympics and is now training to qualify for the World Championships in Barcelona, which take place at the end of July.
