Week 1 of Strictly Come Dancing 2023 did not disappoint tonight as both viewers and judges were treated to some amazing - and some surprising - performances.

This Saturday night saw the 15 couples performing live for the very first time this year fresh from last week’s launch show.

The Strictly judges – made up of Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke – all offered their feedback.

The judges marked all of the routines out of 40 as always and at the end of the weekend we saw lows of 16 and highs of 32.

EastEnder Nigel “Mini-Den” Harman sits proudly atop this year’s first leaderboard, with poor old Les Dennis way down at the bottom.

The first week's scoreboard is below:

As ever, there was no public vote or elimination this first weekend but the judges’ scores will be taken forward to next week to help determine which acts are in the bottom two.

Stand out moments beside Nigel's performance was the 78-year-old Angela Rippon, who stunned viewers with her incredible flexibility. And also  Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who took two judges "to a rave" with his funky feet.

The scores will be combined with the first viewer vote this series. Then it’ll be up to the panel to decide which celeb stays and who will be the first to leave the competition.

As we know, scores will be carried over to next week, then combined with their second dance and the viewer vote. The bottom two couples will hoof for survival. It’s still all to dance for.

Although the dancing is done for the night, we get a plug for the spin-off show, which returns at 6.30 pm on Monday with new co-host Fleur East.
