Martin LewisMoney Saving Expert site has revealed their top tips for saving money on Netflix.

The experts at the site have unveiled their Netflix hacks to save you cash and help you get the most out of the streaming service.

So, what are their suggestions?

Do you need more than the basic plan?

There are three different levels of Netflix subscription, with higher levels costing more but giving you access to more screens you can use simultaneously.

Many Netflix users are on the £9.99 per month standard package or the £13.99 per month premium package.

But if you don’t use more than one screen at a time and aren’t fussed about HD, then Money Saving Expert recommends looking at the £5.99 per month basic package – a saving of £96 per year.

Split your subscription

Money Saving Expert makes the point that there is no reason to have more than one plan in a household.

If you live with three others, you can split the premium package (giving each person a screen) and pay just £3.50 per month.

What's more, you don't have to worry about messing up one another's watchlists or where you've got up to with a particular show or film, as you can create separate profiles, allowing each person sharing the plan to tailor Netflix to their tastes.

Do you need a TV Licence?

If you only watch Netflix and don’t watch any ‘live television’ or shows on BBC iPlayer, then you don’t need a TV licence.

So, if you only watch Netflix or similar services such as Amazon Prime Video, or catch-up via ITV Hub, All 4, My5 etc, you can save yourself up to £159 a year by ditching your TV licence.

Use Netflix codes to find lost movies and shows

There's a secret stash of codes that let you access every category on Netflix so you can track down comedies, documentaries, dramas and more that you might not see by browsing the customised categories.

The Money Saving Expert site reads: “Just type the name of the category into the search bar on your browser or app, and you'll be shown related ones. Or you can add a code to the URL – for example, http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/XXXX – to be shown a different selection.

“There are more than 3,000 categories – see the list on independent site What's on Netflix's Netflix ID Bible.”

Be the first to get new Netflix features

You can get new Netflix features by opting in when they test potential changes before they are rolled out to every subscriber.

Most changes are barely noticeable, but some can vastly improve the viewing experience.

To opt in, go 'Account' and then 'Test participation', and switch the 'Include me in tests and previews' button to 'on'.
