PARENTS have been reassured that secondary school places have been found for all the children who missed out this year.

Middlesbrough Council has informed people this week that more than 120 additional places have been secured to meet the needs of those children who were not initially offered a place within the borough.

Over recent weeks, schools have undertaken detailed reviews of their buildings and staffing structures, with a further 122 places identified at Outwood Grange Ormesby, Unity City Academy, Trinity Catholic College and King’s Academy.

The council's chief executive Tony Parkinson said: “This situation arose due to a complex combination of factors, not least of which is the growing quality and popularity of Middlesbrough’s schools.

“It has clearly been a very difficult time for the parents and families of those affected, and I’m grateful to them for their patience and understanding.

“I’m also grateful to our schools for their commitment to finding a solution in such a short space of time.”
