VISITORS scaled an historic landmark 160ft above the River Tees as part of the national Heritage Open Days.
On Sunday, people climbed to the top of the Transporter Bridge, in Middlesbrough, the only one of its kind in the UK.
They looked inside its winding house and travelled across the river in its gondola.
The centenary of the iconic blue structure, which straddles the river from Middlehaven to Port Clarence, near Billingham, is celebrated on October 17 with a series of events, including art exhibitions, bungee jumps and cycle rides.
The Middlesbrough Symphony, composed by David F Golightly, is having its premiere at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Thursday, performed by the Northern Sinfonia.
The Transporter Bridge Centenary Concert will also feature the Firebird Suite, by Stravinsky, and the Cello Concerto in E minor Op 85, by Elgar.
