A PAIR of safety conscious pupils have seen their artistic hard work turned into distinctive road signs.
Park End Community Council asked local children to design signs welcoming motorists to the area and asking them to drive carefully.
The winning signs were designed by Rhianna Smith and Georgia Warren, both aged 10 and pupils at St Pius X RC Primary School.
One sign will be at the corner of Sandringham Road and Ormesby Road and the other at the junction of Ladgate Lane and Overdale Road.
Valerie Gibson, a community worker with STEM (Safer Together in East Middlesbrough) who sits on the community council, said: "It was important to us that the signs reflected the area - lively and family-friendly but with an important message about helping keep our area safe.
"The girls' designs summed this up and are a welcome new feature to our area."
And Middlesbrough Council road safety officer Lynn Hepworth added: "Our roads are safer than they've ever been, but that's no reason to be complacent.
"The dedication and imagination show by all those who took part in the competition was truly impressive."
