POLICE have issued a warning following a number of incidents in Saltburn and Marske when rogue tradesmen offered to build fences and lay driveways for large sums of money.
Police community support officer Anne Farrell-Thomson, of Cleveland Police, said: "I would ask people to consider the prices quoted to them very carefully, as most are simply ridiculous.
"One victim paid £2,000 and his caravan for a very poorly built fence, and others have had extortionate charges added to their bill.
"I would advise those who are offered these building services to stop and think carefully about the prices quoted.
Call trading standards for advice on how much you should expect to pay for certain kinds of work, or simply call other builders and ask for a quote."
