POLICE are warning youths about the dangers of throwing bricks at moving vehicles.

Over the last two months, seven incidents have been reported in which four youngsters have been seen throwing bricks off the bridge near Marton Country Club, in Middlesbrough, onto the A174 below.

So far no-one has been seriously hurt.

PC Nick See, of Cleveland Police, said: “This is an extremely dangerous thing to do and it is fortunate that we haven't had any serious accidents or even fatalities following these incidents.

"To those responsible I would say, you may think this is a bit of a prank but it is something we take extremely seriously.

"I would urge anyone who knows who is responsible to contact police as quickly as possible."

The incidents include: * The bonnet of a black Vauxhall Corsa was damaged on Thursday , February 3, at 7.30pm.

* A car bonnet and windscreen were damaged and a lorry was hit by a brick on Tuesday, February 15, at 6.40pm.

* A driver and two passengers were showered with broken glass after the windscreen of a blue BMW was smashed on Tuesday, February 15, at 10.05pm.The front seat passenger suffered minor wrist injuries.

* On Wednesday, February 16, at 7.45pm, a car bonnet was dented and another car suffered damage to the front bumper and headlight.

* A car windscreen was smashed at 7.45pm on Friday, March 18 and five minutes later the passenger side of a second car suffered a number of dents and scratches from a brick.

Inspector Keith Dee, of Cleveland Police, added: "These incidents are very serious life threatening offences and we will continue to investigate them until we bring the persons responsible to justice.

“It is essential that we catch the people throwing these missiles at vehicles travelling at high speed before we have a fatality."
