POLICE knocked down more doors as their crackdown on known criminals continues.

Early morning raids across the Redcar and Cleveland area resulted in two men, aged 25 and 48, being arrested at addresses on the Lakes estate in connection with the supply of amphetamine.

Detective Inspector Mark Dimelow, who led the operation in Redcar, said: "This was an operation built on community intelligence meaning that the police are working with local communities to drive out drug dealers and reduce the misuse of drugs in the town."

Operation Tornado is targeting known offenders, with each police district - Middlesbrough, Redcar, Stockton and Hartlepool - compiling a playing card list of 13 men and women suspected of various offences, ranging from drug dealing and organised crime to theft and burglary.

A joint operation between the Middlesbrough District Support Unit and Automatic Number Plate Recognition Unit targeted criminals using the road networks to transport drugs.

In total, 18 stop checks were made, five vehicles recovered and three people were reported for summons. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B Drug and a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of false representation.

Sergeant Colin Robinson said: "This was an excellent example of Cleveland Police's commitment to deny the use of the road network to criminals and to prosecute those who choose to drive without insurance or tax."

And an early morning speed campaign was held by the Roads Policing Unit on the A174 Easington Village near Loftus in response to concerns from residents.

Tomorrow drug dealers across the force area will be targeted along with a crackdown on a housing estate in the Stockton police area.

Anyone with information about crime is asked to call Cleveland Police, on 01642326326 or Crimestoppers, on 0800-555-111.
