AN MP has delivered 550 Easter eggs to NHS staff on behalf of his constituents.

Simon Clarke, the MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, made the delivery to James Cook University Hospital to thank the NHS staff who continue to work in the battle against the coronavirus.

The donation was made through Mr Clarke's funds on behalf of his constituents.

He said: "This is a small gesture of gratitude on behalf of all my constituents to the doctors, nurses and staff at James Cook Hospital who are working so tirelessly to save lives in the midst of this terrible outbreak.

"Usually this would be a time of year to look forward to - sadly this year is different. And while many of us can still at least spend some time with our families, I think it is right that our thoughts should be with the NHS staff who are working day and night to save lives at places like James Cook.

"I think I can speak for everybody in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland in saying a huge thank you to all those staff as they continue to work every minute of every day on our behalf.

"It is just an Easter Egg, but I hope that they will bring just a little bit of happiness in this dark time, along with the memories of better times past and the hope of better times still to come."

"We will get through this, and when we do we will never forget those NHS staff who helped us get there. Thank you to you all."
