STAFF and volunteers at RSPB Saltholme are urging visitors to come along and take part in some spooky activities this October half term.

There are lots of activities for families to get involved with at the nature reserve near Stockton-on-Tees, from searching for animal footprints on a tracker trail quest, to creating a luminous lantern for Halloween.

Aimée Lee, Saltholme’s visitor experience manager, said: “It might be cold at this time of year, but we have so many fun activities to keep people entertained that they won’t even feel the cold.

"Outside we have a special animal tracking trail, our welly splash to explore and lots of wildlife to enjoy.”

Indoors at RSPB Saltholme there will be bat box building workshops to give visitors an opportunity to build and take home their very own box.

The workshops are suitable for all ages, with all equipment provided.

Ms Lee added: “I’m so excited about this half term holiday, in addition to our fun outdoors trail we have a Spooky Specimens table inside where visitors can try their hand at identifying all kinds of gruesome objects.

"There is also our Luminous Lanterns activity so don’t forget to bring along an empty glass jar to take part.”

Bat box building workshops are priced at £7.50 per bat box or £6 for RSPB members.

The reserve is open from 9.30am until 4pm during the half term holiday, with activities throughout the day.

Entry is £5 per car, or free for RSPB members.
