TWO big birthday celebrations are to be marked this weekend as part of the ongoing Discover Middlesbrough festival.

This Saturday will see an exhibition open celebrating 30 years of Middlesbrough football fanzine Fly Me To The Moon and also a party to mark 40 years of the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum.

The two events are part of the wide and varied programme for Discover Middlesbrough 2018 which kicked off on October 15 and will run until November 4.

The Fly Me To The Moon exhibition will be on display at Boro Bookworm & Sacred Alien Cornix on Wilson Street, from 10.30am on Saturday, October 27 until Saturday, November 3.

Thirty Years of Fly Me To The Moon is presented by editor Robert Nichols and features everything from the very first hand drawn, typed out black and white edition to the present day colour publication.

Celebrations for the 40th anniversary of CCBM and the 290th anniversary of Captain James Cook’s birth take place at the museum in Stewart Park from 10.30am-2.30pm on Saturday, October 27.

The event features the Inner State Theatre Company performing the hilarious “Cook’s Secret Recipe”. Entry is £2 or free with an Explorer Pass.

As well as the two birthday events, a whole host of exhibitions, shows and events are open for exploration before the end of the Festival.

Some of the topics include inspirational Teesside women and William Lane Foundry tour.
