PLANS to create a building society insideYarm Library will go ahead.
Part of the ground floor will be converted into a branch of the Newcastle Building Society and the library is expected to close temporarily while a small side extension is built on to the side.
The building society will take up about a tenth of the floorspace on the ground floor.
Councillors on Stockton Borough Council's planning committee approved the change of use after no objections or comments were received on the matter.
Councillor David Wilburn said: "I think that this is to be welcomed. I think more of those changes are gong to be needed in the future if we are going to maintain services.
"In these increasingly austere times it may be the only way of retaining services."
