A RECYCLING scheme with a difference is helping to protect householders in Hartlepool.
Steel security gates from a town centre housing demolition site are being reused.
Around 200 properties - including a large number of old terraced houses - have recently been knocked down as part of a major redevelopment scheme being carried out by Hartlepool Council.
The properties’ alley gates are being fitted to the area behind Everett Street, which hasn’t previously benefited from protection, while the others have been put in storage to await further use. Burglaries have fallen between 60 per cent and 80 per cent where gates have been installed.
