DRIVERS are being warned to watch out for roadworks on one of the main routes in and out of Hartlepool.

Work will start on Monday, May 6 to relay the southbound section of the A689 from the Owton Lodge roundabout to the junction with Truro Drive.

Hartlepool Borough Council’s £300,000 scheme will take about eight weeks to complete.

While it is being carried out a contra-flow system will be in operation along the northbound carriageway of the same section.

The traffic lights at the Truro Drive junction will be temporarily turned off and any vehicles joining the A689 from Truro Drive will be required to turn left towards Hartlepool and then double back at the Owton Lodge roundabout.

Access for residents in the area will be maintained throughout the work as will access to Blackford’s Nursery opposite the Truro Drive junction.

Brendon Colarossi, the council’s senior projects officer, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience which the work may cause but the repairs are essential as the road surface has become very worn and needs replacing. We will do our very best to carry out the work as quickly as possible.”

To enable some initial preparatory work to be carried out, some lane closures will be in operation during the course of this week.
