A DEAL has been signed which will see regeneration work start on a Grade II listed town hall after years of legal wrangling.

Thornaby Town Council and Green Lane Capital have joined forces to redevelop the building into a mixture of town hall and a range of commercial and community facilities.

The parish council took over control of the building in November last year and work will soon begin on the adjacent buildings.

Councillor Ian Dalgarno (CORR), town council chairman, said: “We finally got Stockton Borough Council to agree the sale and it is great that we now own the building. We were only interested in the restoration of the town hall so it was decided to work with Green Lane Capital to redevelop the other building and they have some exciting plans in the pipeline.

“It is great to sign the deal and get the work started in April.”

The restoration will see the town hall and its adjoining buildings become home to up to 26 small enterprises with short term, easy-in-easy-out tenancies for new and existing enterprises.

The newly-restored buildings will also include a heritage centre, offices and a management suite.

The main council chamber will be restored for meetings and commercial use.
