RESIDENTS and visitors are being asked their views on how to shape the future of a town centre in a bid to improve business.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s consultation is looking for people’s opinions on the market, seafront attractions and concessions as well as events and festivals in Redcar.

The town is undergoing a £75m reinvestment with the Redcar Beacon and improved sea defences being at the heart of the developments and the council is now looking at ways of bringing more people into the town.

Councillor Mark Hannon, cabinet member for economic development, said: “It is important we make the most of this once in a lifetime opportunity and develop what the town has to offer even further to attract more business opportunities, shoppers and visitors.”

The consultation is seeking views on the relocation of the market to the precinct area near the Town Clock; moving the market day from a Wednesday to a Friday; events and festivals to create a vibrant town centre and business opportunities for seafront attractions and concessions.

Councillor Olwyn Peters, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, added: “The proposals on the table will help to build upon the development taking place in Redcar and increase visitor numbers to the town.

“The Council will take into account all the views expressed during the consultation on the proposals therefore I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved.”
