TWO North Yorkshire beauty spots are responsible for some of the nation’s happiest holiday memories.

In a poll of UK holiday destinations which provoke the happiest memories amongst Brits, Whitby and the Yorkshire Dales made the top ten.

Cornwall was the most popular destination for treasured experiences, while Whitby was ranked eighth and the Yorkshire Dales ninth.

The research was conducted by holiday company cottages4you to explore the impact holiday memories have on the nation’s wellbeing.

It found that despite the economic gloom, 80 per cent of the population consider treasured holiday memories more important than money. And 70 per cent of the nation reminisced about their summer holidays to help beat the winter blues.

In a separate nationwide poll, Upper Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales was recently voted as having one of the best winter views in the country.
