TWO students have proved themselves masters of spin after representing their country in a frisbee championship.

Once confined to parks and beaches, frisbee has now becoming a popular competitive sport. Recently the European Championships of Ultimate Frisbee took place in Poland.

Representing Britain were Northallerton College students, Sarah Lacy, 16, and Edward Todd, 17.

Sarah, from Romanby, was in the winning side in the U17 contest, which is similar to American football with a point scored for catching the frisbee in an end zone.

“It was the first time I had been selected for Team GB and the experience was absolutely brilliant,” she said. “It has taught me such a lot.”

Edward, from Northallerton, played in the U20s team, which came fourth out of 20.

Both players will be trying to impress selectors when they hope to take part in national trials in November for next year’s world championships in Paris.

Head of PE at Northallerton College, Anna Harvey said: “Frisbee is fast and furious and both students possess a great deal of skill and control playing at the highest level.

“To be part of the national squad is an incredible achievement.”
