A STAR gazing evening is to take place at a beauty spot with dramatic views of the night sky.
The panoramic vantage point of Sutton Bank will form the backdrop for the event, which is being hosted by experts from York Astronomical Society on Saturday, October 1.
The astronomers will give two illustrated talks at Sutton Bank National Park Centre, near Helmsley, and make their telescopes available for the public to use, or people can bring their own telescope and get tips on how to use it.
The event begins at 6pm and - weather permitting - some of the highlights should be seeing Jupiter with all four of its major moons.
Martin Whillock, honorary secretary from the society, said: “With a telescope and the right weather conditions, the night sky can be a magical thing to observe and the conditions around Sutton Bank, with its low light pollution, are ideal for getting some excellent views.
“Come well wrapped up and join us for what promises to be a very exciting evening.”
