THE organisers of a sports programme for young people say they are delighted with the response to their summer programme of activities.

More than 400 people from Richmond, Catterick, Colburn and Askrigg took part in the Richmondshire Leisure Trust Burst activity camps which were held during the school holidays.

The camps offer a range of activities for children aged between five and 18 to get them to try different sports and skills, including kayaking, archery and dance classes.

The scheme also organised a number of taster sessions in mountain biking, horseriding, fencing and triathalon as well as more traditional sports.

Matt Prosser, sports development co-ordinator with the leisure trust, said: “The range of activities available has ensured that programmes can reach the widest possible audience, and this diversity will continue to be the cornerstone of future school holiday programmes.

“This was expanded through partnership work with the local children centres, the army welfare service, extended schools service and local museums so that a single guide to the summer was created.  It provided a one stop shop for parents to get a full overview of everything available to them during the holidays.”

The Burst programme operates during every school holiday. It will return for the October half term break.
