A SOCIAL networking surgery designed to help novices promote their businesses and make the most of websites will be held at the Great Yorkshire Show.

The one-off surgery, which will be held on the first day of the event, on Tuesday, (July 12) has been organised by the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) in partnership with social media expert John Popham and the North Yorkshire broadband company NYnet.

The drop-in surgery will work with novices and talk them through the basics of social media and how websites such as Facebook and Twitter can promote rural Yorkshire by bringing communities closer together and helping businesses market their goods and services.

CLA Yorkshire regional director Dorothy Fairburn said: “Social media websites are revolutionising the way in which the world communicates. Sadly, due to the poor internet connection in many parts of rural Yorkshire, farmers, landowners and rural business owners have lagged behind in this fast moving environment.

“Harnessing this new technology can deliver real business benefits so I would urge farmers and rural business owners to visit our stand and find out what it’s all about.”

Anyone wanting to attend the surgery can pre-register online at http://socialmediasurgery.com/events/191 or call the CLA on 01347-823803.
