POLICE are appealing for help in tracking down two men who made off with a taxi driver’s takings.

The driver, in a blue Ford Mondeo, picked up two men on Darlington Road, Richmond, and took them to Catterick Village just before midnight on Sunday.

As the taxi driver, a 57-year-old from Colburn, dropped the two off, one of them reached out and stole cash from his takings before making off in the direction of Rowan Court.

Both offenders are described as being between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall. They spoke with Scottish accents and were both wearing dark jackets and beanie hats.

One of the men was wearing a plain silver ring on the third finger of his right hand.

Detective Sergeant Angie Went of Richmond CID said: "If anyone saw two men acting suspiciously in the Catterick Village area around the time of the incident they should contact us immediately."

Anyone with any information that could help the police with their investigations is urged to contact DS Angie Went of Richmond CID on 0845 6060 247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
