POLICE hunting a rapist who attacked a teenage girl have renewed their appeal for help from the public.

Detectives have issued an e-fit likeness of the attacker in the hope that someone recognises him.

The man struck last Saturday, attacking an 18-year-old girl as she walked in a field linking Westfield Place and Grange Lane in the Acomb area of York.

Despite suffering scratches, bruises and cuts to her face and body in the attack and needing medical treatment, the victim was still able to give police a detailed description of her attacker.

He was in his late 20s, about 5ft 5ins to 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build, with dark cropped hair and facial features that included thin lips and a rounded chin with stubble.

He had a deep voice, a local accent and was wearing a dark-coloured Puffa-style jacket and light-coloured bottoms. At the time of the attack he smelt of alcohol and strong deodorant.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Raw said: "It is vital that we trace the suspect as a matter of urgency. I urge anyone who recognises the likeness to an individual to contact police without delay.

"Alternatively, if people wish to remain anonymous they can pass on information to the independent charity Crimestoppers."

Police can be contacted on 0845 6060 247 while Crimestoppers are on 0800 555 111.
