COVID restrictions are not stopping a North Yorkshire school from safely honouring those who gave their lives in the World Wars.

Queen Mary’s School, at Baldersby Park near Thirsk, will be live streaming its Remembrance Service to all pupils and staff, ensuring that the occasion is marked by everyone within the school community.

Reverend Pauline Percy, Queen Mary’s School Chaplain, will be leading the socially-distanced service which will include The Last Post played by Year 11 pupil, Rachel Mitchell.

Poppies are being made by students, which will then be displayed on a large cross outside the Grade II Listed School building, which once served as a Military Hospital during the First World War.

Headteacher Carole Cameron said: “Remembrance Day is a very special day in our calendar for the whole school community and especially for those who have family in the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

“As a school, we have a strong spiritual ethos. We are very keen that our Remembrance Service should go ahead as we believe it is really important, this year more than ever, that we remember the sacrifices that were made for our country.”
