A FARMER has paid tribute to all those who lost their lives and helped the war effort with a giant field display celebrating VE Day.

Colburn farmer Dave Wood, whose field already boasts a large sign praising the NHS and keyworkers, turned his attention to VE Day.

Mr Wood commissioned Richmond-based Eyecatching Signs to produce a fitting tribute to Britain's war-time heroes and the large display featuring a tank, bomber and warship now stands proudly in his field.

He said: "I did one a year and a half ago for the anniversary of the end of the First World War because we shouldn't forget them.

"I am a little bit passionate about the fact that if it wasn't for all those that sacrificed, not only the Army and the Airforce, but also the intelligence services and so many others, we would not be having the life we have got.

"Things are a bit hard right now, but things would be a lot worse if Hitler had won wouldn't they?

"We mustn't forget the sacrifices that all our grandparents and great grandparents made for us and that is the reason for the signs, to remember them all."
