A FIREWALK to raise money for Marie Curie is being organised by the Stokesley and District Fundraising Group.

The group is looking for brave ‘soles’ to hot-foot across the coals in return for sponsorship for the charity. Full training will be given before the challenge by the firewalk company, Time4Change, ensuring that those who brave the blaze will succeed unscathed.

The event, at Stokesley Sports Club on March 21, has attracted generous financial support from A V Dawson Ltd and Terry Dicken Business Park both of whom have participating teams. More corporate teams are welcome.

Family members and friends are invited to come and give support. Participants are asked to register between 6pm and 6.30pm, followed by an hour of tuition. From 7pm spectators will be able to enjoy bar facilities and a hog roast. The actual firewalk is expected to commence at 8pm.

The group has been fundraising for more than 15 years, during which time they have raised more than £120,000 to support local families living with a terminal illness.

This is their most ambitious and unusual event to date. Group members Jane Peacock and Chris Wildsmith are taking part – Jane,"to prevent her from getting cold feet" and Chris, "because she likes a challenge."

The registration fee to take part is £25 and each participant is asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £150. To sign up for this ‘bucket list’ challenge or to make a donation please email Jean Noble:- stokesley.mariecurie@gmail.com

Community Fundraiser Gemma Hewitt is also braving the coals.

She said: “This will be my third firewalk in 12 months. So far in Yorkshire we have raised over £20,000 from our incredible volunteers doing the firewalk. Its one of the best things I’ve ever done. It’s a bucket list event, it doesn’t hurt at all and is a real crowd pleaser. Be brave and sign up – wow your friends and family and empower yourself for this epic challenge.”
