YORKSHIRE Dales Sailing Club is celebrating after its youth and junior members smashed a number of national titles over a hugely successful summer season.
The talented young sailors include Matthew Rayner, 12, who won the RS Tera Sport National Championship in a record 73-boat fleet at Brightlingsea on the east coast.
Matthew, a Ryedale School pupil, said: “I learnt to sail in an RS Tera five years ago and to now win the Nationals is a massive achievement.
"Something I will never forget.”
Other summer successes include the NeilPryde 29er Nationals in Pwllheli, where over a 12-race series, teenagers Athena Vogiatzi and Maddie Wylie claimed the ladies’ title after finishing first all-girls team in 11th overall.
Yorkshire Dales SC training principal Erica Caswell said the club provided an ideal environment for ambitious young sailors with its large sailing area and highly competitive level of club racing to test and develop their members' skills.
