HAMBLETON District’s Council’s Civic Centre headquarters is turning rainbow colours every night to mark the final month’s countdown to the world cycle championships.

Northallerton is to host the start of one the most prestigious races in the UCI Road World Championships – the men’s elite time trial.

The High Street will be taken over with riders from across the globe on Wednesday September 25.

They will cycle through Romanby, Morton on Swale and Bedale as they head to the finish line in Harrogate 54km later.

And the following weekend, September 28 and 29, riders will once again venture into the district passing through West Tanfield on both days.

The Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International takes place on Saturday September 21 before the Championships themselves.

It is the first time since since 1982 that the Championships have been held in Britain and millions of fans are expected to line the county’s roads to enjoy the spectacle.
